I'm not an alcoholic or something. I've just been having problems with WINE ("Wine Is Not an Emulator"), the Open Source implementation of Windows API on top of Unix/Linux.
It all worked well until a couple weeks ago. I don't know what was changed, but suddenly applications began to start very slowly (they can take even a few minutes before they are launched).
I've tried to downgrade to previous versions, tried previous kernel version, tried reinstalling wine... nothing. The problem remains.
On the contrary on my desktop PC, everything is fine. So I'm starting to believe it's a problem related with my laptop. :(
If anyone has any suggestion, I'm listening!

Try WINE's own repository:
deb http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt feisty main
Will give u the most uptodate wine packages
Thanks John,
unfortunately that's exactly how I install and manage Wine... :(
I've even filed a bugzilla entry, but it looks like I'm the only one with this problem! :(
I don't think it's a hardware related issue, rather software. I guess a clean install would help solve the problem.
Nice blog btw. Did you try playing some 3D (OpenGL/Cedega/WINE) games on this Amilo machine? If you did, what games exactly and how good performance was? I'm thinking over the purchase of this Amilo laptop and it seems to be fair deal. You put out essential and crucial information basically proving this Amilo model is capable of making good friends with Tux and GNU world. Good job. I personally would love to play some games with my friends using this laptop so I thought you might want to do some test runs of games such as Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, World Of Padman, TC:Elite, Enemy Territory, etc and report back in this blog.
I think I'll purchase this notebook since it's just too good for me.
Offtopic question, what is you cpu and hdd temperature when cpu is idle and under stress?
